What is an underwriting 'spot'?
An underwriting spot is an announcement made on public broadcasting outlets (including college radio stations), in exchange for funding. These spots usually mention the name of the sponsor, what you sell and how people can contact you. Basically, the essential information about your business.
However, businesses are prohibited in making product claims, announcing prices, or providing an incentive to buy a product or service. Calls to action are also not allowed. The good news is that because of these restrictions, underwriting spots are therefore vastly more affordable than regular advertising spots on commercial radio.
Donors who contribute funding can include corporations, small businesses, philanthropic organizations, charitable trusts, and individuals.
